About the Beatrice Trap Team

What is it?

The Beatrice Trap Team is composed of students from Beatrice and surrounding communities that practice and participate in high school trap shooting events in the state of Nebraska. Shooter's that can participate on the trap team range from the 6th grade through the12th grade. The team holds practice on a weekly basis and normally participates in six weekend meets against surrounding high school trap teams. After the completion of the season meets, students can compete in an All-Conference meet and the final State Championship trap meet. The Beatrice Trap Team is part of the "Eastern Cornhusker Trapshooting Conference" (ECTC), South Division.

College scholarships are available for high school graduate trapshooters. You can read about them in a publication titled "Collegiate Shooting Sports Directory" available from the National Rifle Association (NRA). You can view the publication by visiting www.nrahq.org/compete/coldir.asp.

History

In 1988, the Eastern Cornhusker Trapshooting Conference (ECTC) was founded. The cornerstones upon which the ECTC was founded, were, and still are, "Sportsmanship - Academics - Citizenship". The first season of competition took place in 1989 with 144 shooters participating in the conference. In 2007, 1,226 shooters registered with the conference and a record 1,101 shooters actually shot during the season. That is an amazing 765% shooter participation increase since the ECTC was founded 20 years ago. Another impressive number was that a record 229 conference shooters earned academic excellence awards in 2007.

The Beatrice Gun Club first got involved when the Crete High School Invitational was moved to the Beatrice Gun Club in 1992. Four years later, the Crete High School Invitational became known as the Fairbury High School/Beatrice Gun Club Invitational. In 2004, the shoot as it is known today, was renamed to the Beatrice Gun Club Invitational.

Who's Eligible to Participate

Student's from the 6th grade through the 12th grade can participate on the Beatrice Trap Team. Both male and female student's are encouraged to join the team if interested. Although called the Beatrice Trap Team, we have had a number of student shooter's participate on the team from smaller surrounding communities including but not limited to Wymore, Odell, and Tri-County. Student's from the 6th grade through the 12th grade can participate in six (6) ECTC season meets, the All-Conference meet, and the season ending State Championship meet. All student shooter's will be required to have passed a hunter safety course through or approved by the state of Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
